Luke 1:26-38
Verse 37 reveals that nothing is impossible with God. Christmas is a powerful display of God’s glory with the Hypostatic Union of Jesus. This text reveals how Jesus is fully God and yet fully human. God makes the impossible possible! This profound truth is rooted in the nature of Jesus as well as the very nature of redemption. Christmas points to something eternal and glorious that we partake of. May we recognize the real wonder of Christmas.
Do You See It?

Luke 2:1-7
The Roman Emperor seemed to be in complete control over the whole world. The Imperial propaganda described the Caesar as the savior and as worthy of worship. Joseph and
Mary, who lived in Nazareth, were forced to travel to Bethlehem to register and pay
burdensome taxes to the Emperor. Caesar appeared to be sovereignly ruling and oppressing
the world. And yet, the truth is that Jesus is Sovereign, not Caesar. God was in complete
control, bringing His First Born into the world, orchestrating the circumstances to fulfill His
promises, and bring the Messiah who will defeat all evil. The whole point of Christmas is God
reaching down as the Real Savior who is worthy of worship. Yes, the lies can seem so real.
Christmas reminds us that things aren’t always what they seem to be.
Fix Your Eyes on Jesus

Luke 2:21-40
As the Christmas story comes to a close, we are prompted to recognize who Jesus is and
fix our eyes on Him. Verse 21 reminds us of the importance of the name of Jesus: The Lord
Saves. The rest of the text is a summary of God’s purpose: Jesus keeps the OT law, He will bring
comfort (“consolation”) to His people, the Holy Spirit empowers the fulfillment of God’s
purpose, all nations will worship Him as one people who have experience His redemption. The
Christmas story points to the Purpose of God. Just like Simeon would not see death until his
eyes saw the Messiah, we exist to fix our eyes on Jesus.
