Matthew 1:1-17
The genealogy in Matthew 1 is a summary of God’s relentless purpose to rescue
humanity from slavery to sin and bring us into His presence. Jesus is the promised King (son of
David) and the fulfillment of the promise to bless all nations (son of Abraham). The genealogy is
marked by sinful people, brokenness, and failure. And yet, God’s purpose is relentless. God
came. He is with us.
